Pomorie - Beach holidays to Bulgaria

The resort town of Pomorie is located 20 km north of Bourgas, 18 km south of Nessebar. The proximity of Sarafovo Airport, which is only 8 km away, makes Pomorie even more accessible, especially for foreign tourists.

The city is also attractive for wine connoisseurs - there are several wineries that organize dinners with tasting, and in the summer on the square in the center is held a wine festival. In general, Pomorie is a favorite place for families with children, as it is a quiet resort. The central part of Pomorie is entirely a pedestrian zone, where the summer festivals "Sea Week", "Wine Days" and "Maple Days" are held on an open stage.

For entertainment, tourists are offered a boat trip, an amusement park, water skiing, kitesurfing, pedal boats and water attractions at Sunset Water Park.

The eastern beach starts from the old town and is one of the longest on the Black Sea coast and has been awarded the Blue Flag of the cleanest waters. Here the sand is unusually black because of the iron oxides in it. Next to it is Lake Pomorie, from where some tourists get estuarine mud and make their own mud baths.

The sea here is suitable for sunbathing with children, as the waters are shallow into the sea.

The central beach is at the northern end of Pomorie and next to it are both sanatoriums, which practice mud therapy and treatment with lye from Lake Pomorie.

The port of Pomorie is close to the city center and is a very popular place for walks. In addition to the many fishing boats along the coast, many yachts and fishing boats dock here. In summer, yacht regattas are organized here. During the summer, there are daily boats for walks, which can take you on a panoramic walk around the city reaching the Pomorie lighthouse (1 km from the coast) or to the new part of town. During the morning hours of the day there are longer hikes reaching the island of St. Anastasia or the town of Sozopol.

The entire promenade is dotted with smaller and larger restaurants, fast food restaurants and children's entertainment areas. Taverns are also revered, as in the past the city was inhabited mainly by Greeks. In them, to the sounds of Greek music and sirtaki, you can taste fish and seafood delicacies prepared according to local fishing recipes.

The location of Pomorie near Pomorie Lake provides an opportunity to walk 6 km of tourist eco-trail, which can be used for cycling and watching rare birds.

The oldest building in Pomorie, dating to the III-IV century AD. is the Thracian domed tomb, which is located at the beginning of the city. It is the largest Thracian tomb on the territory of Bulgaria with architectural solutions without analogue and its visit is invariably accompanied by amazement at the skill of ancient masters.

The Salt Museum is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria and clearly shows what was the technology with which the medieval Pomorians extracted sea salt, old topographic maps, models and authentic equipment and tools for salt extraction.

The Historical Museum in Pomorie presents many finds discovered during archeological excavations - coins, amphorae, anchors from the Bronze Age and even tusks of a mammoth from prehistoric times. Of particular interest is the Roman mosaic from the bathroom, as well as fragments of columns.

The festival of sand sculptures is held annually in the city of Burgas on the territory of the Burgas park "Lake" in the Sea Garden. It begins in July as sculptures of castles, towers, sea animals, mermaids, pirates, fairy creatures and others - some over 8 meters high - remain open to the public throughout the summer. About 2,500 tons of special, rain-resistant sand are used for the bizarre models.
BHC Holidays offers self-catering holiday apartments for rent in Pomorie for beach vacation in Bulgaria.
